Fare system: key infos at a glance
How fares are calculated
The südtirolmobil network is divided into some 260 areas. These fare zones are used to calculate the distance travelled ("tariff kilometres") and the applicable fares. Fare zones typically correspond to the respective city, town or village. Larger municipalities are sub-divided into several fare zones. Each bus stop and train station is assigned to a specific fare zone.
Key facts:
- To use your ticket, you first have to validate it: Every time you board a bus or train, remember to check in at the ticket validation machine, otherwise your ticket will not be valid.
- The minimum fare per journey is equal to 10 km in your respective price category, with one exception: When using a Südtirol Pass or a Euregio Family Pass anywhere in South Tyrol except Bolzano/Bozen and Merano/Meran, the minimum fare charged for connecting bus journeys within one fare zone is equal to 5 km in your respective price category.
Different pricing rules apply to journeys on südtirolmobil cable-cars and the Renon/Ritten light railway, to some seasonal bus connections to excursion destinations or ski resorts, on Nightliner buses and some bus routes that are organised at municipal level.
Children up to the age of six travel for free and do not need a ticket.
Bikes and medium-sized or large pets are transported for a fee. Separate tickets issued by the cable-cars to Colle/Kohlern, Meltina/Mölten, Verano/Vöran and Maranza/Meransen are required to transport bikes and pets on those services.
The use of public transport and its fares are subject to the provisions of the government of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen-South Tyrol.
